About TRIREME

The U.S. Navy’s Higher Education Digital Archives Preservation System

A collaborative project between the U.S. Naval War College (NWC), the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS), and the United States Naval Academy (USNA) to manage, provide access to, and ensure long-term preservation of digital and digitized content in our collections.

The name TRIREME comes from the ancient Mediterranean maritime vessels with three banks of oars. It stands as a metaphor for the three institutions of higher education involved in this digital archives and preservation system: The Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California; the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland; and the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island. Our overarching goals are to build continuity into our preservation programs and to provide the Navy and the world at large with an unprecedented single point of access to the Navy’s publicly accessible intellectual capital and historical collections.

All records visible in TRIREME are unrestricted and available to the public.
